The song got its name after Ederlezi (otherwise known as Đurđevdan (Ђурђевдан) in Serbian, sometimes transcribed as Djurdjevdan) which is a Spring festival, especially celebrated by Roma people around the former Yugoslavia (and elsewhere around the world), regardless of religious affiliation. This holiday celebrates the return of springtime.
Kalasnjikov is a song from Goran Bregović's soundtrack for the movie Underground by Emir Kusturica. It draws heavily from the rich Serbian and Bulgarian Romani music tradition.
We've written our own arrangement of this piece (see PDF files at bottom of page). Usually we play through it twice, singing the chorus each time, then solo on top of the bass line.
